FG Deploys Armed Soldiers to Power Stations

Ahead of the planned handover of facilities of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria to private investors, soldiers have been deployed in critical facilities, power stations and other properties previously owned by the utility.

The soldiers were deployed in the facilities to prevent alleged threats by ex-PHCN staff to vandalise equipment and frustrate the handover.

Daily Times learnt that the Federal Government was determined to forestall any attempt to sabotage this crucial stage of the privatisation of the power sector.

PHCN staff also reportedly began a strike today to protest the non-payment of their severance benefits.

However, government said on Wednesday and Thursday that the benefits had been credited to their accounts.

More details later...
