A Senior Magistrate's Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday sentenced six men and one woman to 70 days imprisonment each for constituting public nuisance in the city.
The convicts, Ene Jude, 35; Yahuza Ibrahim, 27; Okafor Onyekachi, 34; Daniel Ogochukwu, 41; John Dogo, 29; Rabor Henry, 27; and Daina Henry, 32 were each given the sentence for constituting a public nuisance and disturbance in the city.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr Abdullahi Illelah, who convicted them, however, gave them an option to pay a fine of N1,000 each.
"I put into consideration the plea of the convicts because they are first time offenders, who admitted committing the offence and did not waste the time of the court," Illelah said.
Prosecutor Simon Emmanuel told the court that the police arrested the convicts on November 11.
Emmanuel said they were arrested at various hideouts with substances suspected to be Indian hemp, around Jabi Village, Angwan Rogo village, Dape Village, and Angwan Cement Village in the FCT.
He said during police interrogation, the convicts could not give a satisfactory identification of themselves.
