Azeez Farouk, a 38-year-old resident of Niger Area in Ilorin, on Friday urged an Ilorin Area Court to dissolve his four-year-old marriage to one Rashidat Farouk for allegedly being lazy.
"My wife is not ready to do anything until she was compelled to work," he told the court.
Farouk said his wife was always reluctant to carry out her domestic activities, adding ``even the business I established for her has been abandoned because she is too lazy to go to the shop''.
He said the marriage, which was contracted in 2009, had however produced a male child, Lateef.
"I want an end to this marriage, because I cannot cope with a lazy woman who knows how to spend money but is not ready to work," Farouk said.
Mrs Farouk, however, objected to the divorce on grounds that she was still interested in the marriage.
"My husband complains a lot, and he is never satisfied in spite of my efforts," she said.
The wife promised to respect her husband's directives for the sake of the matrimonial home.
The presiding judge, Mr Yusuf Abdulkareem, adjourned the case to 19 December for possible reconciliation.
