Gunmen Abduct King's Relatives in Bayelsa

Mrs. Igbalipiri, wife of an elder brother to the King of Opueme Kingdom, Amangala Turner, has been kidnapped by gunmen in Bayelsa State.

It was learnt that Igbalipiri Turner and her daughter whose name had yet to be ascertained were kidnapped at Ogbia waterside in Ogbia Local Government Area of the state.

King A.J Turner, as he is fondly called, is a famous traditional ruler, politician and contractor in the state.

He was one of the brains behind the emergence of Mr. Seriake Dickson as the governor of the state.

A top security source said the kidnappers laid siege for their victims at the waterside which has become notorious for a series of kidnapping.

Auguster, sister to the Presidential Adviser on Research and Documentation, Oronto Douglas, was also abducted at the waterside recently.

She has since been released by abductors.

The source who craved anonymity said the gunmen shot sporadically into the air before whisking away their targets.

He said the woman and her daughter were abducted about 7:30pm on Thursday.

"The kidnappers waited for them at the waterside and immediately they arrived there, they swooped on them and took them away to an unknown place. Security operatives are still searching for their whereabouts," he said.

Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hilary Opara, confirmed the development.

He said the anti-kidnapping team of the command was working on locating the kidnappers.
