A 50-year old cook, Jeremiah Gou, has been
arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court
in Lagos over alleged stealing of cartons of
milk and jewellery valued at N50.71 million,
belonging to one Mrs Taibat Olarenwaju.
The accused, who was arraigned on a two-count
charge of conspiracy and theft by Lagos
police, resides at 5A-26 Jeremiah Ugwu St,.
Road 47, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Emby Ingobu,
the accused committed the offences on
September 25 at the above mentioned residence,
saying "the accused stole gold Jewellery
alongside 350 cartons of Jago peak milk all
valued at N50.71 million, property of one Mrs
Taibat Olarenwaju." Ingobu told the court
that the accused was arrested when he was
suspected to have stolen the cartons of milk
and jewellery, adding that the offence
contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the
Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
However, when the plea of the accused was
taken, he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate I.O. Omotosho granted him bail in
the sum of N300, 000 for each charge, with two
sureties each in like sum.
She adjourned the case to November 6 for
trial.
