Six-year-old Boy Dies in Lagos Fire

A six-year-old boy identified as Abbey died in a fire that gutted a house at No. 3, Ogundele Street, Ifako- Gbagada in Lagos on Tuesday night.

The fire broke out around 9pm when a generator exploded in the densely populated house. The fire swiftly engulfed the 12 rooms in the house, consuming the boy and properties worth hundreds of thousands of naira.

The boy was said to be sleeping when the fire broke out.

Youths in the area mobilised swiftly and helped to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby houses.

A resident of the street, Elder Ebenezer Sunday Ogundele, said he heard shouts of 'fire, fire, fire' around 10pm and he rushed to the scene.

"All the young people in the area mobilised, got water from different places to see that the inferno was put out. They were also calling on the fire service to come. Before they got here, it was around 11pm. By then, the entire house had been burnt down."

The badly burnt corpse of the boy was being buried in the compound.

The residents called on the state government to rehabilitate roads in the area to facilitate the free flow of traffic.
