Hearing starts in N860m alleged fraud case against Fayose

The substantive suit instituted by Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, against the former governor of the state, Mr. Ayo Fayose over the allegation of diverting N860million earmarked for the construction of poultry project in all the 16 local government areas of the state while he was in government between 2004 and 2006, commenced yesterday.

When the case came up for hearing before Justice Adamu Hobon at a Federal High Court in Ado Ado Ekiti, prosecution counsel, Mr. Adebisi Adeniyi presented the documents through his principal witness, Mr. Abubakar Madaki.

According to the prosecutor, the Chairman, Biological Concept Ltd, Mr. Gbenga James and his friend, Mr. Wale Arowokole had during investigations  revealed that the funds meant for Ekiti Poultry Projects were actually diverted.

The documents, according to him, included a voluntary statement of the accused person written in his own hand-writing; petitions, documents containing the names of the alleged beneficiaries, the public relations expenditure, recovered from Ekiti State government during investigation.

Others according to him, include: cheque stubs, (the remaining leaflets of cheques for record-keeping), reports from Federal Ministry of Works, acknowledgment letter confirming the receipt of 50,000 dollars by former deputy Governor, Mrs. Abiodun Olujimi.
